This can’t last forever
The Regime has come to believe their own propaganda.
They have a mindset and it is almost impenetrable.
Kyoto Journal 53 celebrated the vision, innovation, pragmatism, and perseverance of 20 individuals and groups across Asia who translated ideas into action and words into deeds. Their commitment demonstrates the potential of the human imagination to overcome social, environmental, and economic problems to bring about positive change. The theme of the issue is elegantly expressed in a 15th-century Burmese Buddhist proverb: “If we are to be free, we must make each person we meet our ultimate object of reverence.”
In the issue, journalist Daniel Rothenberg reported on the political crises in Burma and how its citizens were creating alternative ways of living under the brutally oppressive regime. The images of everyday Burmese that accompanied the article were provided by Tokyo-based photographer Ken Straiton, who has visited Burma many times.
